The project has recently won a RSA design award for the ‘Branching Out’ brief. The ‘Branching Out’ brief was one of the nine competition briefs set by the RSA in this year’s awards and asks the question ‘How might we harness broad-leaved woodlands and their resources to increase their local economic, social and environmental value?’
The award has initially given the project strength and weighting to be considered for other publications. I have contacted the Woodland Trust who will publish the project within their ‘Broadleaf Magazine’ in the Autumn.
I hope the project will also be recognised within publications by the Forestry Commission and supported by other organisations such as Wood For Good and Grown in Britain.
A new Northern Forest planting strategy has been created that focuses on production. The strategy will be shared with the Northern Forest team to try and persuade this alternative direction to be included.
The timber selection process diagram and the timber growth diagram are key drawings that can be referred to during the building design process. These will be continually revised throughtout my career to ensure they are accurate and a resource for others to use.
The processes used within this project will inform my future projects and help me to build on my current portfolio of timber projects.
