Great Green Wall of China

sfeather5334

The purpose of The Great Green Wall of China is to push back the Gobi desert which have rapidly expanded over the last half a century. The project was launched in 1978 and is the worlds largest afforestation project. Scientists have calculated that over 500sq miles of land per year have become unusable since 1950. Currently this has increased to nearly 1000sq miles due to the warming planet and the influence of other unstable weather conditions. The plans for the project are to plant 88 million acres of protective forests, in a belt nearly 3,000 miles long and as wide as 900 miles in places.
